A 34-year-old Sunnyside man was killed Saturday when his vehicle crossed the highway center line and collided with an oncoming tractor trailer. Jorge A. Epindola was driving a 2007 Honda Ridgeline east on State Route 24 about 5:20 p.m. when he hit the truck. The driver of a 2000 Freight tractor pulling a utility trailer, Richard Holman, 50, of Ritzville, was not injured. A collision with a commercial vehicle often results in fatal injuries since the size and weight of the truck is so much greater than any type of passenger vehicle.
A Yakima woman was injured in a multi-vehicle crash that involved an impaired driver. A car driven by Rigoberto Nemecio, 27, of Toppenish was westbound on State Route 24 when it struck a Jeep Cherokee driven by Claudia S. Cardenas, 27. A 1998 Oldsmobile Achieva was then struck. The Oldsmobile’s driver, 41-year-old Kimberly Hills of Yakima, and Nemecio were not hurt.
