Pierce County prosecutors have charged a man with vehicular homicide for a crash that killed a woman in Spanaway. ReneMichael Navarro, 26, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The accident happened the evening of March 11 in the 2100 block of state Route 7. A sheriff’s deputy happened upon the scene and noticed a crowd standing around a woman lying on the ground in front of a Datsun pickup truck. The woman, who was later identified as 25-year-old Jade Nicole Aubrey-Peterson, was taken to Tacoma General Hospital. She never regained consciousness, records show.

Two people were injured Sunday in Eatonville after a suspected drunken driver lost control and rolled his car several times. The accident happened about 6:45 a.m. in the 45880 block of northbound state Route 7. A 39-year-old Mineral man tried to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone and rolled his Ford Escape. The car landed on the passenger side. The driver and his passenger, a 40-year-old Eatonville woman, were taken to Madigan Army Medical Center with unknown injuries. Alcohol, excessive speed and illegal passing caused the crash, troopers said.

The driver of a pick-up called his girlfriend to complain of chest pains just 10 minutes before his vehicle crossed the center line of State Route 7 and struck another vehicle. The driver is dead and six people from the other car were taken to the hospital after the collision. Both lanes of SR 7 are closed at 316th Street East near Eatonville and traffic is being detoured due to the collision. Two adults were taken to MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital and four children are at MultiCare Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. Their conditions are not available at this time.
