CSX officials say a freight train struck and killed a person on the company’s tracks in northern New Jersey.
The accident occurred around 9 p.m. Friday night in Harrington Park.
CSX spokeswoman Melanie Cost said the 16-car train was heading from Newark to Selkirk, N.Y., carrying a mix of freight when it struck a pedestrian. But she said further details on the victim, including their name and gender, were not immediately available.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
No other injuries were reported in the accident.
Police have identified the mother who was killed and the daughter who was injured after they were hit by a pickup truck in Voorhees, New Jersey.
They are 63-year-old Serafina Fel of Cherry Hill and 38-year-old Anna Veksler, also of Cherry Hill.
Police say they were walking to their home from a nearby drug store and were in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, but it's unclear at this point if they had the signal.
Investigators said they were treating this as a possible 'distracted driving' case, but did not release further details.
