Verzini-Fernandez was traveling south on I-75 when he veered onto the shoulder and collided with a disabled UPS tractor-trailer at about 5:10am. His vehicle came to a rest in the southbound lanes, blocking traffic, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to troopers, alcohol played a role in this accident, though Verzini-Fernandez was wearing a seat belt.
