South Bend-Elkhart, INJohn Young Middle School student Zachary Bielinski, 15, was struck and killed by a train around 5:00 p.m. Thursday in Mishawaka at a railroad crossing near main street. The boy was struck while standing on the north track watching an eastbound train pass. Witnesses say the train sounded its horn for what seemed like 30 seconds. The death has been ruled an accident.

Indianapolis, INA man walking along train tracks near North Franklin Road and East 46th Street was hit and killed around 6 p.m. Friday evening. According to police, the conductor warned the man with the whistle but the man did not appear to have heard or noticed the train approaching. A phone a pair of headphones were found close by.
