Tom A. Bratis failed to stop at a stop sign after leaving the Cumberland Farms store as he turned left onto Route 9 into the path of a police patrol car, striking it. Bratis was intoxicated at the time of the crash, and the patrol unit he collided with was specifically assigned to DWI enforcement. Bratis was also operating a vehicle with a suspended license. He was ticketed for driving while intoxicated, failure to stop for a stop sign, operating with a suspended registration and multiple other traffic infractions. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash.

A 21-year-old motorist who drove into a house in Alden early today had a blood-alcohol content that was more than three times the legal limit, Erie County sheriff’s deputies reported. Zachary E. Olejniczak of Alden was heading north on Two Rod Road, shortly before 12:30 a.m., when he failed to stop at the intersection of Westwood Road, deputies said. His car went across the road and crashed into a home at 11664 Westwood Road, causing significant damage to the foundation. The people who live there were home at the time but not injured, deputies said.
