Smith was driving a truck carrying plastic drums which contained around 1800 gallons of liquid weed killer, when he for some reason left the roadway near Fox Road and Route 19 and crashed his truck into a wooded area. The collision ejected him from the truck and he was pronounced dead. Some of the weed killer as well as some of the truck's diesel spilled as a result.
