A plane crash in thick fog killed a woman in New Smyrna Beach Tuesday night around 9 p.m. near Flagler Avenue and U.S Highway A1A. The plane is believed to have taken off from Massey Ranch Airpark in Edgewater and crashed about 20 feet from the ocean's shoreline. The woman was the only occupant of the plane. During the flight, the pilot contacted the Daytona Beach tower to report problems navigating due to bad weather including dense fog and low visibility. The pilot was trying to find a nearby airport to land.
