A wreck involving several cars backed up traffic for miles on Interstate 85 southbound Monday morning in Spartanburg County.
The wreck happened near the 62 mile marker, which is near the Highway 290 exit, at 6:25 a.m.
Troopers said a vehicle headed southbound hit the brakes due to traffic on the interstate.
That car was rear-ended which caused a chain reaction that ended up involving 11 cars, troopers said.
A member of a utility crew at a roadside construction site died this morning in Madison County when a co-worker accidentally ran over him with a work truck, the State Highway Patrol said. Thomas Davis, 29, of Quaker City in Guernsey County, was with a crew unloading materials when a coworker, 52-year-old Nick Yurjevich, Jr., didn’t see him and backed over him with the truck he was driving. Davis died at the scene along Simpson Road, northeast of London. It happened just before 9 a.m. Yurjevich, from Bergholz in Jefferson County, has not been charged.
Emergency crews were called to a wreck on Highway 123 near Cryovac Boulevard in Oconee County.
According to county officials, a motorcycle and tractor-trailer collided around 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
According to the Oconee County Coroner, the 64-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to Greenville Memorial where he died around 11:52 a.m. Sunday.
The coroner has not released the victim's name pending family notification.
Seneca and Oconee County emergency workers said the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The driver of a 2012 Nissan Maxima was killed early Wednesday in a one-vehicle accident in Pickens County, according to the Highway Patrol.
The accident happened 1:40 a.m. on State 93 near Quarry Road, said a Highway Patrol spokesman.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was traveling north and ran off the left side of the road striking a tree, he said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
Gay James 53, Charlie Beasley 11 months, killed when their car leaves roadway and crashes into tree.
A 53-year-old woman and her 11-month-old granddaughter were killed in a wreck Wednesday afternoon, according to the Abbeville County Coroner.
Gay James was driving on Highway 184 West, headed to Dixie High School to pick up two more of her grandchildren, when she lost control of her car, over-corrected and went off roadway and struck a tree. James, who was wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner said.
Two people were injured, one seriously, in a crash that blocked Highway 29 south early Tuesday morning.
Ousseynou Diop, 41, and Kiante Powell, 20, both of Greensboro, were injured in the two-vehicle collision around 4:10 a.m. on the southbound side near the Interstate 40 merging area.
Both were taken to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment. Diop was listed in critical but stable condition, while Powell was released.
Diop's 2013 Volkswagen was disabled in one of the travel lanes when Powell's vehicle collided with it, Greensboro police said.
A Landrum High School student was killed in a late-night wreck in Spartanburg County, according to the Spartanburg County coroner.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened about 9:40 p.m. Monday on Landrum Mill Road.
The coroner identified the driver as 17-year-old Michael Collin Wessinger, who was driving home at the time of the accident.
Troopers say Wessinger's 2006 Ford Mustang was traveling west on Landrum Mill Road when it went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
A 61-year-old Greenville man was killed in an accident Tuesday morning on White Horse Road near Claxton Drive, authorities said.
The accident was reported at 8:27 a.m., according to the Highway Patrol.
The man’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family, said Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans.
