A Cleveland County deputy and one other person were taken to the hospital Wednesday after a crash in Shelby.
According to the sheriff's office, the accident happened around 5 p.m. on DeKalb Street extension, near Shelby High School.
Officials said Deputy Dustin Skinner and another driver collided, but have not said what may have caused the accident.
Deputy Skinner was taken to the hospital and was later released. The other driver, whose name has not been released, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Shelby Police Department.
A woman has been charged in a deadly crash that happened in east Charlotte Thursday night.
Overnight, police charged Keren Velasquez with causing the wreck that killed one of the passengers in her car.
Police said Velasquez lost control of her SUV when she tried to change lanes on Albemarle Road near Mallard Drive around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officers said Karina Velasquez was thrown from the vehicle and died.
Two children who were passengers in the vehicle have minor injuries and police said one of them was not in his car seat properly.

One person is dead after a wreck in York County. According to the highway patrol, the accident happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on Dobys Bridge Road. Troopers say William Taylor, 32, was driving east on Dobys Bridge Road, when he drove off the left side of the road and struck a Volkswagen head-on. The 36-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. Taylor was not injured. This accident remains under investigation.

Police say Malik Eric Johnson, 18, of Standish Street, was in the car of a friend in the parking lot at Zion Hills Apartments earlier this week.
At some point, Johnson hit the gas, catapulting the car over the curb and into an outside wall of an apartment.
