At around 8:15 a.m., the Illinois State Police Executive Protection Unit officers were involved in a routine movement of Governer Rauner when one of the vehicles in the motorcade was involved in a traffic accident. One of the tail vehicles lost control and struck the rear axle of a semi-trailer. The trooper traveling in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital and was treated and released. The governor's vehicle was not involved in the crash.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Erin Jenkins-Nabe, 32, was driving on I-55 near Butler Hill Road around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday when the rear tires on her car blew out. As she tried to leave the roadway, her car became wedged underneath a tractor trailer, and she was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Three people died and one was injured in a Mississippi County crash on Sunday morning on on Interstate 55. Elva Figurero, 46, Gabriel Figurero, 46, and Navor Medina, 36, were killed in the crash when the SUV they were riding in had a left rear tire blowout. The driver then over corrected, rolled over, and entered a ditch. Two people were pronounced deceased at the crash site, another died at a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle, Francisco Figurero, was taken to a Memphis hospital, and his condition is unknown at this time.

One woman died and three other people were injured in a four-vehicle crash Monday morning. Cynthia Simmons, 61, of Blytheville was killed in the accident on Interstate 55 at the 67 mile marker just after 4:30 a.m. Latonya Harvey of Blytheville lost control on ice while trying to stop on a bridge. The vehicle Simmons was driving hit Harvey's vehicle and spun onto the shoulder. Another driver, Avery Jackson of Blytheville, also lost control but managed to stop in the right lane. Anthony Green of Sikeston, MO struck Jackson's vehicle and then hit Simmons.

The driver will not be charged with a crime, according to a post made by Jackson police to the social media website Twitter. Neighbors said they've seen crashes before but nothing like this despite the fact that people commonly run across the road.

Illinois State Police is reporting four people were killed in an accident on Interstate 55 involving at least one semi-trailer truck and three autos south of Chicago in Will County.

The fatal accident Monday afternoon occurred on I-55 near Arsenal Road in Elwood.

Emergency crews have responded, prompting the rerouting of traffic off the northbound lanes at River Road. An Illinois Department of Transportation spokeswoman says the interstate is expected to be closed at that point for hours.

The Plainfield teen who was killed early Sunday on Interstate 55 has been identified. An autopsy showed Anthony G. Hernandez, 16, was struck by multiple vehicles at 1:49 a.m. a half-mile south of Black Road. State Trooper Ryan Palmer said Monday crash investigators had not determined why Hernandez was standing in the northbound lanes. Hernandez was initially struck by a Jeep Cherokee, driven by a woman who refused medical treatment, Palmer said. She was not ticketed. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s office.
