Shortly after 10:00 a.m., a Piper PA-32 airplane crashed onto the median and eastbound lanes of I-295 in Atlanta. Though all four people and one pet aboard the plane died in the crash, all motorists on the roadway managed to miraculously avoid the carnage, with two vehicles narrowly escaping. Those who died have been identified as Greg Byrd, his sons Christopher Byrd, 27, and Phillip Byrd, 25, and Jackie Kulzer, who was Christopher's fiancee. The plane had taken off from Asheville at about 8:14 a.m.

Two people killed in a fiery crash after an 18-wheeler rear-ended their stopped or slow moving vehicle on Interstate 285 in Atlanta, GA and the car burst into flames.

A 24-year-old woman faces charges after police say she was driving a vehicle that hit and killed a man on Interstate 285 in Atlanta.

Police say a man was walking in the emergency lane of the interstate around 4:45 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle. Police say Tabatha Williams was the driver of the vehicle.

Williams faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI and reckless driving. She was being held in the Fulton County jail and it wasn't immediately clear whether she had a lawyer.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

A tractor trailer overturned on I-285 westbound on Wednesday night emptying beer all over the interstate.

The accident happened on the ramp from I-285 to I-20 eastbound around 11:30 p.m. and closed one lane until about 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

The truck was removed the around 4:18 a.m. and traffic should be moving smoothly through the area in time for the morning commute.

An off-duty Atlanta police officer was struck by a vehicle while working to help a stranded motorist on Interstate 285 late Monday night.

The officer, who has not been identified, was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Information at the scene was limited, but the officer was said to be 'alert and breathing' when he was taken to the hospital.

Authorities are expected to comment further on the officer's condition later this afternoon.
