A child is recovering after he was ejected from a vehicle during a crash on the 5 Freeway in Anaheim Wednesday. The driver swerved in an attempt to avoid a tire tread, lost control of his 2002 Lincoln Navigator and crashed into a retaining wall near Magnolia Avenue around 8:15 p.m. The force of the crash sent his 4-year-old out of the car, despite being strapped into a car safety seat. The youngster landed on a soft bed of ice plants planted along the freeway. He was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center with minor injuries.
Oregon State Police say four adults and two children were injured and State Highway 30 was temporarily closed about 10 miles east of Astoria after a head-on crash. Police say a westbound pickup driven by a 70-year-old woman crossed the centerline and collided with a car carrying three adults and two children late yesterday afternoon. The pickup driver was ejected and seriously injured. She was flown to a Portland hospital. Hastings says the car's 24-year-old male driver was also seriously hurt. The other two adults and the children received minor injuries.
