A van that held eight people was found in a ditch off of I-94. The two victims who died were pronounced dead at the scene, while the six who were injured have already been taken to local hospitals, treated for non-life threatening injuries, and released. A car with frontal damage was discovered, and the owner, Michael Sonnentag, was found and taken into custody.

The Wisconsin State Patrol has arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of causing a crash that killed two and injured six on Interstate 94 early Saturday, and then escaped the scene. The crash occured just west of Eau Claire about 2:40 a.m. Witnesses told police two westbound vehicles collided and one left the scene. The collision caused a van carrying eight people to flip over, slide through the ditch on the north side of the road and land in the tree line. Two of the passengers were not wearing seat belts, and were ejected from the van and killed.

Investigators in Dearborn are working to identify a man who was killed when his car was struck early this morning on I-94. The man was headed east near Greenfield Road when his 1996 Plymouth was struck about 3:05 a.m. by a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, according to Dearborn Police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the minivan fled but was caught a short time later by police. She and her male passenger were taken to an unnamed hospital with minor injuries. The woman’s identity was not released.
