Wednesday, January 29, 2014A fatal crash in Volusia County Thursday morning is under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol.
According to an FHP press release, at 3:50 a.m., John Pearce, Jr., 23, lost control of his vehicle traveling westbound on New York Avenue.
The 2008 Dodge pickup truck struck a culvert and became airborne before the front of the truck struck a tree, troopers said.
Police say that Pearce, a DeLand resident, died on scene; it is not known whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
