Tampa-St. Petersburg, FLIt was approximately 4:10 a.m. when a 17-year-old girl who was driving south on U.S. 19 somehow lost control of her vehicle, and it began to roll. The girl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, which came to rest at the intersection with Frontage Road. She was taken to the hospital with injuries described as "major".

Tampa-St. Petersburg, FLA 2004 Nissan Maxima struck the scooter from behind. The impact ejected Irizzary from the vehicle and into the roadway. The driver of the Maxima immediately stopped but a second vehicle ran over the deceased and failed to stop. Daniel Irizzary, a 37-year-old Largo resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
