The names of two people killed in separate wrong way crashes on the Watterson Expressway have been released. The first crash happened around 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near Breckenridge Lane. The driver of the wrong way vehicle, Skylar Sampson, 20, of Louisville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputy coroner Cindy Curtsinger said Sampson was wearing a seatbelt, but died from multiple injuries when his Toyota Echo hit a Jeep.

The victim of the second crash was identified as Cody Beard, 23, also of Louisville. Around 6:45 a.m., Beard's Jeep was in the fast lane of the Watterson at Newburg Road when another Jeep that had turned around because of the backup from the first wreck hit his vehicle head on. Curtsinger said Beard was not wearing a seatbelt.

Three adults, including a Louisville Metro Police officer, and one child were injured in an accident around 11 a.m. Thursday on the Watterson Expressway near Bell Lane. An LMPD officer was helping a motorist whose white pickup was stopped on the side of the road on the westbound side of the expressway, according to an LMPD spokesperson. While the driver of the pickup was speaking to the officer, a silver Scion truck hit the rear driver’s side corner of the police car.
