Three adults, including a Louisville Metro Police officer, and one child were injured in an accident around 11 a.m. Thursday on the Watterson Expressway near Bell Lane. An LMPD officer was helping a motorist whose white pickup was stopped on the side of the road on the westbound side of the expressway, according to an LMPD spokesperson. While the driver of the pickup was speaking to the officer, a silver Scion truck hit the rear driver’s side corner of the police car. The struck police cruiser spun around and the Scion came to a stop in the middle of the roadway. Emergency responders had to extricate the officer from the cruiser before bringing her to University Hospital. The driver of the Scion, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to University Hospital. A 7-year-old child riding in the Scion with a seat belt was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital. The pickup driver, who had been outside his vehicle speaking to the LMPD officer, was also brought to University Hospital. Both the officer and the pickup driver’s injuries were moderate.
