Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
All southbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the Tallassee exit (mile marker 25 in Macon County) will remain closed to traffic for the rest of the day Tuesday, according to Alabama State Troopers.
Crews worked for much of the day to remove a burned 18-wheeler from a bridge and the waters below it. Following the vehicle's removal, the roadway will remain closed until inspectors can do an assessment report on the bridge.
One person died in the crash. He was later identified as Gerald Eugene Kess, Sr., 62. The cause of the crash also remains under investigation.
