New Orleans, LAShortly before 11:30 p.m., a Chevrolet Blazer overturned along the northbound lanes of Intersate 59. The male driver of the vehicle was injured. Amanda Bankston, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the accident, died of the injuries she sustained, along with her fetus. A two-year-old child who was in a car seat was not hurt in the crash. Police are not yet certain what caused the driver to lose control.

New Orleans, LATonya Sanchez, 23, struck a tree at about 2 p.m. off of I-59 northbound near Pearl River, Louisiana. Sanchez, who was alone in the car, was extracted from the vehicle and transported to Ochsner Northshore in Slidell, where she later died of her injuries.
