Police have released more details about a deadly crash along Interstate 65 in Bartholomew County Tuesday night.

Indiana State Police officials said the crash around 8 p.m. killed 56-year-old Michael Otte, of Whiteland. Otte was driving northbound on I-65 when his car crashed into the back of a semi that was stopped because of a traffic backup in the area. Otte died at the scene, and the semi driver wasn’t hurt.

Investigators believe Otte may have been distracted while driving.

As a result of the crash, I-65 was closed for more than two hours. It has since re-opened.

A trucker was seriously hurt when four semi trucks collided on Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana Wednesday morning, closing the highway for four hours.

The crash happened just after 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-65, about a mile north of the State Route 10 exit, Indiana State Police said.

The driver of a 2006 Volvo semi hauling salt for Summit-based UROL Express failed to see traffic slowing because of a separate crash in front of him, police said.
