Chicago, ILIllinois State Police is reporting four people were killed in an accident on Interstate 55 involving at least one semi-trailer truck and three autos south of Chicago in Will County.
The fatal accident Monday afternoon occurred on I-55 near Arsenal Road in Elwood.
Emergency crews have responded, prompting the rerouting of traffic off the northbound lanes at River Road. An Illinois Department of Transportation spokeswoman says the interstate is expected to be closed at that point for hours.

Chicago, ILThe Plainfield teen who was killed early Sunday on Interstate 55 has been identified.
An autopsy showed Anthony G. Hernandez, 16, was struck by multiple vehicles at 1:49 a.m. a half-mile south of Black Road.
State Trooper Ryan Palmer said Monday crash investigators had not determined why Hernandez was standing in the northbound lanes.
Hernandez was initially struck by a Jeep Cherokee, driven by a woman who refused medical treatment, Palmer said. She was not ticketed.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s office.
