Oregon State Police say a 50-year-old man who was killed after he walked into the path of traffic on Interstate 5 near Roseburg had an apparent history of mental illness.

Charles P. Earwood, of Roseburg, was struck Saturday afternoon by a commercial truck driving northbound on the highway, said Lt. Gregg Hastings, a state police spokesman. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near milepost 126.

One person died in a 3-car crash in front of Roseburg High School on Tuesday.

Police said the Interstate 5 northbound exit at Harvard and both Harvard bridges will be closed for up to 12 hours.

Authorities say Gail Weaver, 56, of Myrtle Creek, was exiting the freeway in her Honda SUV when she hit the curb on the west side of the exit ramp and drove through brush.

The vehicle hit a Subaru Legacy travelling eastbound on Harvard.

The Subaru spun and rolled once landing on its wheels.
