Police attempted to pull over a group of four speeding motorcyclists that consisted of Dailey, Scott R. Henry, 34, Ricky W. Jenks, 37, and one other person, but the group did not stop and sped up even further. Eventually Dailey lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle, sustaining critical injuries. Police report that he also showed signs of impairment and faces charges of driving under the influence.

Orlan W. Knuth, 35, and Joshua B. Lee, 31, were friends or neighbors who got into a verbal argument at a local bar. As Lee was walking down the shoulder of Highway 2, Knuth struck and killed him with his vehicle, though he claims that he didn't know he hit a person and thought he hit a mailbox post or guardrail. He has been booked into jail for vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

Ali Muhammad Altharwa, 19, was still in critical condition Friday night at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. Two passengers were also injured: a 19-year-old man who was seriously injured and a 17-year-old girl who was thrown from the car but only sustained minor injuries. A news release said speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. Altharwa was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro on Country Homes Boulevard around 11:20 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle at the left curve at Excel Drive.

A man suspected of being drunk and high on marijuana reportedly caused a head-on collision early today on Government Way at Houston Road. David J. Rogers, 29, was driving a Dodge pickup west on Government Way at 2:30 a.m. when the truck crossed the center line and hit a Mitsubishi Outlander head on. Rogers and his 32-year-old passenger were ejected through the windshield and seriously injured. The 21-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi also received serious injuries. Deputies believe Rogers was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

Storms raced through the stop sign at Empire and Helena and smashed into Smith’s Ford pickup truck. The collision drove Smith’s pickup into a telephone pole, according to court records. The pole snapped and landed in a nearby yard. Debris littered the intersection. Police said Storms got out of his wrecked vehicle and ran, leaving behind his two passengers: one with nine broken ribs and a collapsed lung, the other with a broken collarbone. Smith, a married father of two, died at the scene. Witnesses helped chase down Storms and he was arrested.

The Washington State Patrol has identified the woman killed in a Tuesday night accident on state Highway 2 about four miles north of Spokane. Dorothy J. Ryan, 47, of Spokane was walking in the highway’s northbound lane at 8:20 p.m. when she was hit by 2002 Ford Focus driven by Sara M. Babcock, 20, of Chattaroy. A news release from the WSP said Ryan was intoxicated. She was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, the release said. Babcock, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
