Authorities are investigating a crash that critically injured a pedestrian near Gearhart.

The Oregon State Police said the crash occurred Thursday afternoon on Highway 101. Authorities say 20-year-old Jake Edward Weil, of Warrenton, tried to cross the highway to a coffee stand when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Authorities say the 72-year-old driver tried to stop. She is now cooperating with the investigation, and the Oregon State Police says there is no evidence she was at fault.

Weil was taken by ambulance to a Portland hospital.

A Washington State Patrol Trooper is recovering from neck and back injuries after crashing his patrol car into two vehicles on U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles Friday evening. The crash destroyed the patrol car. The trooper was traveling eastbound when he saw a car speeding toward him in the westbound lanes. The trooper made a U-turn and pursued the speeding vehicle. The trooper lost control of the patrol car, crossed the center line and sideswiped an oncoming Honda. The patrol car then swerved into the path of an oncoming Toyota Tundra.
