The fatal crash occurred around 4 p.m. Thursday at W. Hillsboro Boulevard and Northwest 2nd Avenue. Shirley Coto, 38, was the driver of a Nissan Altima with four children inside, ages 4 to 11, some of whom were not properly restrained according to authorities. Coto was traveling southbound into the Bazaar Supermarket's parking lot when she crashed with a Ford Ranger pickup driven by Marcelo Verly, 22, also of Deerfield Beach. Verly and his passenger were not seriously hurt. Coto and the children were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where the 6-year-old girl died.
