Jerry Colgate was walking on Elliott Avenue early Sunday morning when he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle. Colgate was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center and is now in a medically induced coma. Charlottesville police say 22-year-old Ashlie Shanice Wells is the person responsible for hitting Colgate and driving off. She was arrested Thursday and charged with felony hit-and-run causing personal injury. Colgate, 28, was known for wearing colorful bandanas. Now, his friends are using his signature look to show solidarity as he continues to fight for his life.
