Friends of Hit-and-Run Victim Kick off Fundraising Campaign

A benefit dinner for Colgate will be held at the Local with Chef Matthew Hart and Melissa Close Hart of the New Belmont Eatery on December 8. An art fundraiser will also be held for Colgate starting in mid-March. Click here to donate through the GoFundMe site for Colgate.
Jerry Colgate was walking on Elliott Avenue early Sunday morning when he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle. Colgate was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center and is now in a medically induced coma. Charlottesville police say 22-year-old Ashlie Shanice Wells is the person responsible for hitting Colgate and driving off. She was arrested Thursday and charged with felony hit-and-run causing personal injury. Colgate, 28, was known for wearing colorful bandanas. Now, his friends are using his signature look to show solidarity as he continues to fight for his life. Now that an arrest has been made in the case, Colgate's friends are focusing on raising money for his medical bills by selling tie dye bandanas at local businesses, which will be sold for $10 each at businesses including Boylan Heights, Mellow Mushroom, and Bill Burnett's Success Studio. The bandanas were donated by PPS Pros - Printing & Promotional Solutions.
