An 89-year-old man who was struck and killed early Tuesday morning was dragged more than three miles by a semi before the driver discovered his body, police said. Investigators believe Carmello Anzalone was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the “busy intersection” at Mannheim Road and Armitage Avenue in Leyden after getting off a bus, Northlake Police Department Commander Jay Militello said. His body was later discovered attached to the undercarriage of a semi truck, more than three miles away in an industrial area at Grand Avenue and Garnet Drive, Militello said.

A wrong-way driver collided with a tractor trailer early Thursday on the Chicago Skyway, spilling diesel fuel and closing all southbound lanes for more than an hour on the South Side. A female driving in a black Infinity northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 90 crashed with the semi about 1:30 a.m. near 76th Street, said a police News Affairs Officer. The truck spilled diesel fuel, causing a HazMat situation that temporarily closed all southbound lanes, Greer said. The expressway was reopened about 2:55 a.m.

A rollover accident shut down all southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway near 81st Street Saturday.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., police were diverting traffic off at 79th Street and allowing cars to re-enter south of 83rd Street. Authorities said it would be hours before southbound I-94 would reopen.

The rollover involved a semi-tanker and a car. IDOT crews responded to the scene of the crash.

There was no immediate word on if any one was injured.

One person suffered minor injuries and three lanes were closed for nearly 30 minutes during the morning rush Friday after three semi trucks were involved in a crash on the Tristate Tollway in south suburban Alsip.

A red Hyundai entering northbound I-294 from South Cicero Avenue lost control, spun out and struck a semi about 7 a.m., a Illinois State Police Master Sgt. said.

That semi veered, and struck another semi traveling north, police said. After the second semi was hit, it flipped over and struck a third semi parked on the right shoulder.

Six elementary-age children were taken to a hospital as a precaution, after a semi-tractor trailer truck hit a school bus in southwest suburban Stickney on Friday. Stickney police said the call about the crash came in around 7:20 a.m., after a semi and a school bus collided at Pershing Road and Central Avenue. Six students who were on the bus were taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, but a hospital representative said the children seemed to be fine. She said all of the students appeared to be elementary school age, and were deaf, but she did not know what school they attend.
