Christoper Sweet, 35, was traveling east in a westbound lane of Interstate 70 about 8 miles west of Mooresville when the collision happened at approximately 11 p.m. Sweet’s Chevy Impala crashed into a semi truck and caught fire. Sweet was pronounced deceased at the crash site. The driver of the semi, Sahal Jama, 27, and his passenger, Mohamed Ali, 37, were transported to separate hospitals in critical condition. Authorities are investigating why Sweet was driving the wrong way.

The driver who was killed in a wrong-way collision on I-70 had several traffic and criminal convictions, and investigators are looking into the possibility that the crash may have been intentional. Christopher A. Coleman, 35, of Xenia, drove the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. Coleman’s Mazda sedan was heading westbound when it went through an emergency turnaround into the eastbound lanes. Coleman’s vehicle crashed head-on into a tractor trailer east of the Enon Road exit.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. officials with Riley County released notice that I-70 westbound at mile marker 317, east of Manhattan, was shut down due to an accident with an injured motorist.

Maryland State Police say a Pennsylvania man has died after a car traveling the wrong way on Interstate 70 hit a pickup truck head-on. Police say a Pontiac Bonneville was traveling westbound in eastbound lanes of I-70 near Hancock on Sunday night when it collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Pontiac, 50-year-old Larry Allen Martz of Mayport, Pa., was flown to Meritus Medical Center, where police say he was later pronounced dead. The three people in the truck were treated on the scene and released.
