A fatal accident shut down northbound I-275 at Sligh early Wednesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said it was a single-car accident. It happened near the ramp.

The car was a mangled mess on the side of the road, and the interstate was closed for a few hours.

The driver was identified as 45-year-old James Peterson of Tampa, and troopers continue to investigate what led to the crash.

Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash involving a man who died on his 47th birthday.

Angel Maldonado of Homestead was riding his 2012 Suzuki motorcycle southbound in the inside lane of U.S. Highway 41 about 1:35 p.m. Saturday, a Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman said in a news release.

Walter F. Wagner, 86, of Apollo Beach was headed west on Pennsylvania Avenue in a 2008 Ford Explorer.
