Authorities say a 68-year-old woman died after she was hit and run over by a van in the driveway of her North Port home.

According to police, Judith Ann Jellema has parked her Nissan Quest in the driveway about 6 p.m. Wednesday. A short time later she asked her 13-year-old granddaughter to move the van because it wasn't parked straight.

The Sarasota News Herald reports Jellema was standing next to the opened driver's door when the teen backed up the vehicle. Jellema was knocked to the ground.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Putnam County involving a dirt bike.

57-year-old Michael Wilber was killed in a crash on Tuesday around 9 p.m. on State Road 20, just west of Kitty Lane according to FHP.

For unknown reasons, patrol officers said Wilber had his Suzuki dirt bike stopped in the westbound travel lane of State Road 20, west of Kitty Lane.

Timothy Buchner, 59, driving a Merc Villager SUV, was traveling west on State Road 20, when he collided with the dirt bike.

Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle who investigators with the Delray Beach Police Department said hit a 20-year-old woman while she was rollerblading along Atlantic Avenue. Detectives said the collision between car and person happened on Tuesday morning around 1:00 a.m. on the west side of the Intracoastal bridge. Witnesses said while taking a breather on the Atlantic Avenue intra-coastal bridge with friends, Bucala was hit from behind by a car. The driver then sped off in the direction of downtown.

Leesburg City Commissioner Jay Hurley won't face criminal charges in an accident that killed a motorcyclist during Bikefest in April. A statement by the State Attorney's Office said there was no proof Hurley committed a crime — "the evidence fails to demonstrate a reckless and wanton driving pattern required to prove a charge of vehicular homicide." However, Hurley violated state driving laws pertaining to "overtaking, passing, changing lanes and changing course," along with improper window tint.

Fort Lauderdale Police investigators have opened a DUI investigation into an accident that took the life of a bicyclist over the weekend.

The crash left the SUV’s windshield smashed and police believe the driver, Justin Andrew Goldman, was drunk and left the scene of the accident. Goldman’s father said that’s not the case.

“He didn’t flee. He did pull over. He was just in shock,” Christopher Goldman said.

The Florida Highway Patrol says two motorcyclists died when their sport bikes left the road, went through a fence and ran into trees.

The crash happened late Saturday in Dunnellon but wasn't discovered until Sunday morning when Rainbow River State Park employees showed up for work.

The Ocala Star-Banner reported the impact scattered pieces of the motorcycles over several hundred yards.

Troopers say 22-year-old Justin Richard and 27-year-old Douglas Scott Keller were traveling at a "high rate of speed."

A well-known Bay area attorney died Saturday night from an apparent drowning sustained in a boating mishap off Egmont Key.

Henry West Hicks, 60, was attempting to retrieve an anchor to a 27-foot boat just after 7 p.m. when something went wrong.

According to a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission report Hicks was approximately three miles west of Anna Maria Island in Manatee County when he died. The incident is still under investigation.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said they arrested a man who caused a DUI accident that resulted in a fatality.

Troopers said they responded to an accident at John Young Parkway and Deerfield Court around 2:04 a.m. Saturday.

Troopers said 44-year-old Eduardo Medina was traveling south on John Young Parkway behind another car.

Troopers said the light turned red, and the other drivers slowed to stop, but Medina continued at the same rate of speed, hitting another driver.

A southwest Florida baby is hospitalized after being injured during a car crash. The 15-month-old child was not restrained at the time of the accident. Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit were called in Saturday morning to investigate the crash on State Road 82. Bryan Stevens was driving a 2004 black Chevrolet 1500 when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Victor Perez Gomez's 2000 red Ford 150. The two trucks collided nearly head on, but alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
