At about 5:30, Baker and a 3-year-old child were traveling northward in a Suburban while Lockhart was traveling southward in a Silverado when Lockhart suddenly crossed into the oncoming lane and struck Baker's vehicle head-on. Baker was taken to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital, but eventually pronounced dead, while Lockhart and the child that was in Baker's vehicle sustained serious injuries. Investigation is ongoing, but so far it is believed that no alcohol or drugs were involved, and that everyone was wearing a seat belt and all air bags deployed properly.

Dylan Wade Ruiz, 23 of the McKinleyville, CA area died after his car sideswiped a guardrail, skidded across all lanes and running head-on into the Lindsay Creek Bridge railing on the north side of state route 299, east of US-101 in Humboldt, California. Ruiz is alleged to have been under the influence at the time of the crash and may have also been handling a mobile devise. Ruiz was wearing his seatbelt. The crash investigation is ongoing.
