Police say an off-duty NYPD officer driving the wrong way on the state Thruway north of New York City crashed head on with another vehicle, killing both drivers. New York state police say the two vehicles collided in Suffern just before 7 a.m. Tuesday. There were no passengers. They say 32-year-old NYPD officer Richard Christopher, of Suffern, was driving a blue pickup truck southbound in the northbound lanes. Police say the pickup hit an SUV driven by 59-year-old James DeVito, of Airmont. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 32-year-old woman is facing charges after police say she drove the wrong way down a Long Island street and struck another vehicle, killing a passenger in that car, and then fled the scene. The incident happened just after 4:40 a.m. Monday on Greenwich Avenue in Hempstead. According to detectives, Gregoria Canales-Bonilla was operating a 2000 Ford Explorer when she crossed over the double yellow line, striking a 2008 Ford. A 24-year-old male passenger in the backseat suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident.
