A 32-year-old woman is facing charges after police say she drove the wrong way down a Long Island street and struck another vehicle, killing a passenger in that car, and then fled the scene.
A 32-year-old woman is facing charges after police say she drove the wrong way down a Long Island street and struck another vehicle, killing a passenger in that car, and then fled the scene. The incident happened just after 4:40 a.m. Monday on Greenwich Avenue in Hempstead. According to detectives, Gregoria Canales-Bonilla was operating a 2000 Ford Explorer when she crossed over the double yellow line, striking a 2008 Ford. A 24-year-old male passenger in the backseat suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident. Police say Canales-Bonilla abandoned her vehicle at the scene and fled on foot in an unknown direction. Detectives found her at her home Wednesday evening and placed her under arrest without incident. She is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death.
