At about 7:00am, a train engineer blew the whistle and activate the emergency brakes to avoid hitting a woman that was on the tracks. The woman did not move however, and the train could not slow down in time, leaving the woman to be struck and killed. Check back for updates.

A driver hit a 10-year-old boy, then crashed into a fence near East Mission Avenue and North Cook Street around 7:30 a.m. Thursday in north Spokane. The boy suffered serious injuries and is currently in the hospital in critical condition. The driver is cooperating with investigators. While there was about a half inch of snow on the ground, it is unknown at this time if weather conditions were at play. The crash site is just a few blocks from Stevens Elementary.
