A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Union Pacific freight train in Berkeley Monday morning, fire and railroad officials said.

The fire department received reports of a train hitting a pedestrian near the Berkeley and Albany border at 9:06 a.m., the Berkeley fire Acting Deputy Chief said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, a man, had been walking south on the tracks and a southbound Union Pacific train heading from Roseville to Oakland struck him, Union Pacific spokesman Aaron Hunt said.

A pedestrian was struck by a bus in San Francisco Sunday morning, a police spokesman said.

Officers and paramedics responded to a report of a crash involving a man in his 60s who had been hit by a private bus at Seventh and Market streets at about 8:10 a.m., San Francisco police spokesman Eric O’Neal said.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that were potentially life threatening, O’Neal said.

The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

The crash remains under investigation

San Francisco police are investigating a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian that happened in the city’s Sunset District on Sunday night, a police sergeant said.

Officers responded to a report of the collision in the 3700 block of Ulloa Street near 39th Avenue around 9:45 p.m., police said.

A vehicle traveling east on Ulloa Street hit a pedestrian who was in the crosswalk, he said.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where she is in serious but stable condition, police said.

Two Santa Rosa women on their way to dinner with their husbands were killed Saturday evening by a suspected drunken driver when his pickup rear-ended the sedan they were riding in as it sat in traffic on Highway 12 near Farmers Lane. Susan Hufford, 53, and her mother-in-law, Sharon Hufford, 74, were riding in the rear of the Toyota Camry driven by Randolph Hufford, 54, with his father Donald Hufford, 74, in the front passenger's seat when it was struck from behind by a full-sized GMC Sierra pickup, CHP Sgt. Erik Egide said.

Concord police were looking for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run that happened on Sunday night. Officers responded to a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian in the area of Willow Pass Road near Fifth Street around 11:40 p.m., police said. A pickup truck traveling east on Willow Pass Road left the roadway, hit a pedestrian walking west on the sidewalk and fled the scene, police said. Arriving officers found the victim deceased on the roadway, according to police.

A man was struck and killed by a train near the Atherton Caltrain station early Saturday morning, an agency spokeswoman said.

The man was on the tracks just north of Fair Oaks Lane near the station around 1:20 a.m. when he was hit by southbound train No. 198, Caltrain spokesman Jayme Ackeman said in an email.
The victim’s identity has not been released.

The train involved in the deadly collision was the last train of the night. It was delayed for more than an hour, Ackeman said.

The incident is the third Caltrain fatality this year, the spokeswoman said.

An 8-year-old girl was hit by an unlicensed driver near Horrall Elementary School in San Mateo Friday morning, according to police. The driver, a 38-year-old San Mateo resident, struck the girl with a gold Toyota Corolla in the 900 block of Ocean View Avenue at about 7:40 a.m. The girl was alert and talking when she was taken to a hospital and her injuries were not considered life threatening, police said. The driver was cited for driving without a license and released. Drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the collision.

A juvenile was struck and injured while walking in crosswalk on Wednesday evening in San Francisco’s Balboa Terrace neighborhood.

Police said a boy was hit by a car that was turning onto Junipero Serra Boulevard from Ocean Avenue.

The boy was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian and not having proper proof of insurance.

The collision remains under investigation.

A pedestrian was struck and injured by a car Tuesday in San Francisco's Financial District, police said.

The pedestrian was hit near the intersection of Sacramento and Battery streets about 6:10 a.m., said a police spokesman.

The pedestrian, whose identity was not released, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The driver stayed at the scene.

In the latest in a series of traffic collisions in San Francisco injuring pedestrians and cyclists, a bike rider was struck Tuesday by a car near the Civic Center, authorities said.

Reports of a collision near Market and Hyde streets came in around 10:15 a.m. Responding firefighters located a man in his 40s suffering from injuries sustained in the crash, officials said.

The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were considered non-life threatening, the Fire Department said.
