An 86-year-old motorist who stepped out of his vehicle after colliding with a semi truck Monday in Southgate was struck and killed by another vehicle, police said. Lorenzo Fugate of Wyandotte had been driving south on Fort Street near Orchard Street in a Mercury when the first wreck occurred at 10:40 a.m. Two passersby stopped to check on him. He exited his vehicle. Then, a southbound Ford Ranger struck the Mercury, which in turn hit Fugate and threw him into the oncoming Ranger’s path, said Southgate Public Safety Director Thomas Coombs.
