The things that you need to know about an accident with a drunk driver
Drunk-driving crashes are complicated because of the many parties potentially involved, including the drunk driver, the bar or tavern where they got drunk, the party host who gave alcohol to a minor, and the parole officer tasked with supervising repeat offenders. Here is what you need to know to deal with a drunk driving collision.
A 2013 Lincoln MKS was spotted outside the bar, and deputies briefly detained a man who was standing outside the vehicle for questioning. But when deputies attempted to talk to the 28-year-old woman inside the vehicle, she refused to cooperate, slid from the passenger seat to the driver's seat and suddenly accelerated from the scene, nearly striking nearby pedestrians. The Lincoln MKS fled west on Byron Street, then turned north onto Silverdale Way and headed north at extreme speed.
According to Tacoma Police, the woman was injured just after closing time at the Backstage Bar & Grill on Sixth Avenue, when a large number of cars were trying to leave the parking lot at the same time. “One of the drivers became impatient and decided to back up and go another direction,” said Tacoma Police Lt. David O’Dea. “When they did so, they backed up at a relatively high rate of speed, hitting a car behind them and pushing that car into another car.” An occupant of the third car was seriously injured in the collision, police said, and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center.
