San Diego, CAA woman and her small daughter died Tuesday when their SUV smashed into the back of a grocery store delivery truck on north Interstate 5 south of the Orange County line.
Many drivers who witnessed the crash or saw the wreckage right after were distraught, one woman posted on Twitter.
Northbound traffic was halted for nearly an hour. Even after two lanes opened, the backup worsened and extended as far south as Oceanside Boulevard.

Monday, December 2, 2013A passenger was seriously injured when a car rear-ended a FedEx truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
As the truck was approaching a red light in the right turn lane on Watt Avenue near Chenu Avenue, a 2011 Dodge Avenger was traveling at a high rate of speed straddling the No. 3 lane and the turn lane.
The CHP says the driver of the Avenger, David Longenecker, 25 of Sacramento, didn’t see the FedEx truck slowing and slammed into the rear of it, forcing the Avenger underneath the truck.

Louisville, KYA cattle truck was traveling eastbound when it hit a car that was driving the wrong way on US 60. The semi overturned with 35 cows on board at the time. Eight cows had to be euthanized due to their injuries, and six or seven cows are still unaccounted for. The road was closed for several hours while police rounded up the cows. Both the female driver of the car and the truck driver were taken to the hospital. The female driver is being cited with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Wednesday, November 20, 201350-year-old truck driver faces DUI charges after a fatal crash in Adams County that happened around 7 p.m. Thursday.
Jeffrey Moser, 50, was driving a box truck on the 6500 block of Fairfield Road in Carroll Valley when he hit a Jeep on the side of the road, killing Melissa Huff, 38, according to police.
Huff and her boyfriend had stopped to recover a deer that had been killed in a previous accident.
Investigators say Moser fled and abandoned his truck.
Police said they later found Moser hiding in some bushes outside his home.
