Minneapolis-St. Paul, MNAn Amtrak train struck a semitrailer truck that failed to stop at a crossing in central Minnesota, leaving the big rig’s driver dead and several on the passenger train injured, authorities said.
The collision involving the eastbound Empire Builder occurred Friday afternoon at the rail crossing at 317th Avenue in Fawn Lake Township, according to the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.
Killed was semi driver Donald R. Hedlund Sr., 57, of Bemidji, the Sheriff’s Office said. Hedlund was driving the flatbed truck for Minnesota Limited, of Big Lake, Minn., a pipeline contractor.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, MNOne person died Friday after a car went over a guardrail on the Bloomington Ferry Bridge and landed on its roof, according to police.
The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, a 2003 Buick LeSabre, on the icy blacktop of highway 169 near mile post 117 and ran off the road, police said.
The LeSabre was the only car involved.

Duluth, MN-Superior, WIA snowmobiler has died in a crash in Lake County.
Sheriff's officials say the crash happened Tuesday afternoon near Finland. The 32-year-old victim is a local man who died at Lake View Memorial Hospital.
He has not been identified.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, MNA Waite Park man is dead after a three-vehicle crash in Benton County on Thanksgiving Day.
A vehicle driven by Ahmed Abdulle, 35, of Waite Park failed to yield at a stop sign while headed south on Highway 10 near Country Road 33, According to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Abdulle’s vehicle hit northbound traffic and was hit by another vehicle driven by a 20-year-old woman from Onamia.
Abdulle died and two others suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, MNAn 80-year-old man from St. Paul died in a rollover crash the night of Thanksgiving in Dakota County.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, David Jones was eastbound in the right lane of Highway 110 near Highway 149 when he went off the road and rolled. The one-vehicle crash happened around 8:30 p.m.
Jones was ejected from his vehicle and died from his injuries, the state patrol reported.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, MNA city spokesman says five children rescued from a car that veered off a highway ramp in suburban Minneapolis and landed in a holding pond were unresponsive when they were pulled from the water.
City spokesman Jamie Zwilling was on the scene of the accident Thursday morning in St. Louis Park at Highways 7 and 100. Zwilling says the mother of the children made it out of the car when it landed in the water but that the children were in the submerged car for about 20 minutes.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, MNA brother driving himself and three siblings in his Milaca family to school north of the Twin Cities pulled his minivan into the path of a semitrailer truck less than a mile from their destination, leaving his 13-year-old sister dead in a broadside collision, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 7:55 a.m. Tuesday at the T-intersection of Hwy. 23 and 127th Avenue, just west of Milaca, according to the State Patrol.
Killed was Katrina E. Maetzold, 13, the patrol said. No one in the van was wearing seat belts, the patrol added.
