Tuesday, December 31, 2013A mother has been charged with driving under the influence after her two young children were killed in a car crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Melissa Patton, 32, is charged with two counts of felony driving under the influence and driving under suspension.
According to troopers, Patton was driving a car at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday on Wells Highway when the car traveled off the road, hit a church sign and overturned.

Seattle-Tacoma, WAA 5-year-old was critically injured after a car hit a tree overnight in Auburn. The 21-year-old male driver and an 8-year-old girl have non-life threatening injuries. The car was traveling 90 mph when it ran off the road around 2:30 a.m. and hit a tree on Auburn Way South. Emergency crews had to help free the man and boy after they were trapped in the car. Authorities say the girl managed to get out without help. Police are investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Austin, TXA three-car accident on State Highway 45 and Heatherwilde in Pflugerville left two people dead and three injured on Saturday.
According to Austin-Travis County Emergency Services, multiple people were pinned in. The 60-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene. Two injured people were transported to Dell Children's Medical Center via Star Flight and one adult was transported to Round Rock Medical Center, later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Pittsburgh, PAThe Allegheny County medical examiner's office this morning identified a woman killed in a single-vehicle crash on Bigelow Boulevard Sunday night that also injured a child.
Nicole Albright, 22, of Pittsburgh, died in the crash in the 2200 block of Bigelow just after 9 p.m., a supervisor from that office said.
The crash shut down the road between Interstate 579 and Herron Avenue and rerouted traffic, Allegheny County emergency dispatchers said.
Rescue crews cut a 2-year-old girl from the vehicle. She was transported to UPMC Mercy, treated and released, the station reported.
