Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident from early New Year’s Day in west Houston. It happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 6200 block of Westheimer. Police said a minivan was driving on Westheimer when a 43-year-old victim attempted to cross the street and was hit. Officials said the victim did not use the crosswalk and died at the scene. The driver of the minivan stayed at the scene and was questioned by police. Police do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash. Names of those involved were not immediately released.

A man was struck and killed by a pickup truck at the height of rush hour traffic while attempting to walk across 57th Avenue near Regal Street. The pedestrian was headed south across the street when he was hit by a GMC pickup driving eastbound shortly after 5 p.m. He was not crossing at a crosswalk. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup is cooperating with investigators. Deputies don’t believe impairment or negligent driving were factors in the accident.

A pedestrian was struck and killed after being hit by two vehicles in the West End Tuesday night, police said. Police were sent to the 2100 block of Central Parkway shortly before 6:00 p.m. According to police, Pamela Barnett, 60, was initially struck by a car driven by Hamilton County Judge Patrick Dinkelacker. She was then thrown into an oncoming lane of traffic and hit a second time by a car driven by Grace Ling, 32. Ling and Dinkelacker were wearing their seat belts, according to police. Police said speed and alcohol are not factors in the incident.

Two construction workers were hit while crossing West End Avenue early this morning, according to Nashville police. The men were in the middle of the road near the intersection with 21st Avenue when a turning vehicle hit them, according to police. No charges are anticipated against the driver. Investigators said the apparent cause of the crash was pedestrians crossing outside of a crosswalk. Both pedestrians were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. One of the men sustained life-threatening injuries, Sheffield said.

A 35-year-old man was struck crossing San Jose Boulevard near Hartley Road early Tuesday afternoon. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man in his 30s was struck by a northbound SUV about 2:45 p.m. while crossing the six-lane road outside of a crosswalk just north of Interstate 295. The victim's condition was originally though to be life-threatening, but police later said he was in stable condition at UF Health Jacksonville and should recover.
