An 89-year-old man and his wife were hospitalized following a high-speed crash on Route 83 Monday.

North Ridgeville police stated that the 89-year-old man was driving a Buick Lucerne at nearly 100 mph and rear-ended a Mazda CX-5 around 1 p.m.

The Mazda was pushed into a ditch, flipped over and came to a rest near a telephone pole, police said, while the Buick traveled nearly 300 feet before coming to a rest in front of an Avon Beldon Road home.

The front end of the Buick was almost completely destroyed, police said.
