It is with a heavy heart that we report that NBC2 Director of Meteorology Jim Reif passed away last night at 10:38 p.m.

Jim was involved in a tragic bicycle accident Sunday afternoon. While riding his bike on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, his bicycle hit a sign, throwing him to the ground. Jim hit his head on the curb and suffered traumatic injuries to the head.

First responders were able to get to the scene in a matter of minutes because the accident happened less than a mile away from the fire station. It's unclear what caused the accident.

A 30-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night on U.S. 1, and investigators seek to locate the unidentified hit-and-run driver.

Brent Horsmann of Cocoa died in the 11:30 p.m. crash at U.S. 1 just south of Williams Point Boulevard, a short street north of Camp Road, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Horsmann was pedaling north on the west paved shoulder of U.S. 1 — against the flow of traffic — when a southbound vehicle struck him, troopers said.

Two people were killed Sunday night when their small plane crashed as they filmed a zombie movie in Central Florida, officials said.

Dennis Monroe, 65, and passenger Joseph Sardinas, 70, died in the crash, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. at Monroe Airpark at Southeast 140th Street in Summerfield.

Officials said the plane was a small, two-seat, single-engine aircraft that was being used in a low-budget zombie movie that was filming in the area.

Witnesses said after a banking turn over the film site, the engine stalled and the plane went down nose-first.

Michael Giovanni Agosto, 27 of Delray Beach was arrested early Sunday morning after a crash which left his passenger Carlos Montalban, 32 of Delray Beach with critical injuries.

A 2003 Honda motorcycle and 2012 Honda Civic were both traveling north on US 41 about 3:21 a.m. Sunday. As the Civic was stopped for traffic, the motorcycle driver failed to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

A 15-year-old boy is recovering after his leg was severed during an attempt to jump on a moving train. It happened just after midnight at the railroad tracks near 56th Street and Main Street.

Police say Jayson Ahrens was trying to get on the train when his leg got caught under it. Police say he told investigators he was trying to make curfew at the Panama Youth Center.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says a woman was killed after being thrown from a four-wheeler she was driving on Sunday. The Sheriff's Office says Jessica Oras was with a group of people celebrating a birthday at Whitehurst Pond in Brooksville Sunday afternoon when the accident happened. Hernando County deputies and Fire/Rescue personnel responded around 5 p.m. where an investigation reveled Jessica Oras was driving the four-wheeler with her cousin Rachel Gernaat on the back. They were driving around the pond and as Oras sped up, they hit a bump and were both ejected from the ATV.
