Corporal Brian Hirsch, an 11-year veteran of the force, is recovering, but the crash brings new attention to Maryland's "move over" law. The October 2010 law has seen increased enforcement this summer and requires drivers approaching an emergency vehicle parked in the emergency lane to move over at least one full lane if possible. The law was recently expanded to include tow truck drivers as well as police, fire and other emergency workers.

A state trooper involved in a collision in Baltimore was taken to Shock Trauma Monday afternoon. Authorities said another car collided with the state trooper around 2:30 p.m. in the area of North Avenue at Bloomingdale Road. The trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The condition of the other driver was not immediately released. A cause of the crash remained under investigation.
