A woman was driving sometime before 2:30 a.m. on the 4200 block of Rotunda Avenue in Bowers Hill in Chesapeake when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer, causing her Volkswagon Passat to go off the road and hit a tree. Her 13-year-old son was killed in the wreck. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A vehicle hit and killed a black bear on a two-lane roadway north of Interstate 75 on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in the Florida Everglades, and three people who had gone to the driver's aid were then struck and killed by another vehicle. When the first car, a Cadillac Escalade, collided with the animal, a second vehicle pulled over at the scene, and then a Mercedes crashed into the people who stopped to help. Some of the injured were transported by air from the remote crash site. The bear died. Four critically injured patients were airlifted to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

At about 9:00pm, a car with 16-year-old male passenger struck a bear that was in the middle of Highway 12. Though the passenger was wearing a seat belt, it failed to properly restrain him, and he was injured enough to warrant being flown by helicopter to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. The driver of the car was not injured, and the condition of the bear is unknown.

Bret Cartwright, 25, and his 22-year-old wife were injured in a rollover crash after their car struck a dead bear on I-84 in Eastern Oregon. The couple were driving eastward with their 1-year-old daughter and family dog when the crash occurred at 11 p.m. Saturday. The bear was lying in a traffic lane next to plastic vehicle parts. Cartwright hit the bear and rolled into the center median after he had changed lanes to avoid hitting the vehicle parts. Cartwright and his wife suffered minor injuries.

The 2-year-old fell off a wagon when the horses carrying it spooked, and then was accidentally run over while his brother tried to free him in Sadsbury Township at around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday. He was brought to the hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a Saturday night crash while riding with a driver arrested for DUI, police said. Will County Sheriff's police said the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Oak Street. According to police reports, a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crossed into the southbound lane, went into a skid, struck two trees on the passenger side and smashed into a mailbox and boulder on the side of the road. Deputies reportedly found the rear tire on the other side of the street and bottles of beer behind the passenger seat.

A school bus swerving to avoid hitting a pair of deer has skidded off a road in rural LaSalle County and tipped onto its side, injuring the driver and two children. Sandwich School District 430 Superintendent said the bus was taking children to Lighted Way, a school for students with special needs in LaSalle. He says the driver swerved to avoid hitting two deer on U.S. Route 52 around 8 a.m. Friday. The bus skidded on loose gravel and toppled onto its side in a ditch.
