Schrader was driving on a road near Abilene when a live turkey unexpectedly crashed through his windshield. He was fortunately not injured in the accident, but the turkey was killed in the crash and given to a family that was helping Schrader after the crash.

The driver was conscious and talking after the crash, was transported Hendrick Medical Center, treated, and released. Police are still awaiting toxicology tests, but alcohol and high-speed are likely factors in the crash.

Pilot instructor Maj. Richard W. "Tracer" Schafer III, has died in a plane crash on Sunday near Abilene Regional Airport in Texas. Schafer's brother, 28-year-old Matthew Schafer of Abilene, also died in the crash, but 31-year-old Victoria Schafer and 2-year-old Wyatt Schafer survived the crash of the single engine plane.

Three family members have died in a small plane crash in rural Central Texas.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the single-engine plane crashed around midnight on Saturday.

The plane had taken off from Cook Canyon Ranch Airport near Ranger, which is located about 85 miles west of Fort Worth.

The crash happened in a wooded area about three miles northwest of Ranger.

A California man was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 20 in Mitchell County early Thursday morning. The accident happened about 5 miles west of Westbrook. According to the DPS, 79-year-old Robert Beaufort Case of Homeland, California was driving the wrong way in the westbound lane of the interstate when his car was struck head-on by an 18-wheeler traveling west. Case died at the scene. The truck driver was treated and released from Mitchell County Hospital.

A Hermleigh woman is dead after a small, single-engine plane crash in Sweetwater Sunday. Lisa Bowman, 60, died Sunday after the plane she was in crashed just three miles north of Sweetwater. The aircraft was flying from Shreveport to Sweetwater. The Department of Public Safety said the pilot, 58-year-old Richard Bowman, also of Hermleigh, was switching fuel tanks when a malfunction occurred, causing the engine to stall. Richard Bowman was taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
