Kitsap County Sheriff

Kitsap County Sheriff's Office a full service agency employing 114 Commissioned Deputies, 83 Corrections Officers and 31 support personnel that are supplemented by well over 150 volunteers providing exceptional law enforcement services for the citizens of Kitsap County.

Kitsap County Public Records Requests

Within five days of receipt of the request, the County will either: (1) provide the record(s); OR (2) deny the request; OR (3) acknowledge the request and provide a reasonable time estimate for the response. The County will charge a fee of $0.15 per copy plus the cost of mailing. Payment is required before copying or mailing.

Kitsap County Jail

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office Jail is responsible for the operation of the Kitsap County Jail and the Work Release/Jail Alternatives Facility located in Port Orchard, Washington.

Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney's Office

The Kitsap County Prosecutor's Office prosecutes all felonies and misdemeanors in Kitsap County, advise and represent all of the County’s elected officials and departments, provide legal advice to all county law enforcement agencies, establish and enforce child support obligations and provide victim and witness assistance services.

Kitsap County Public Defense Office

Kitsap Co. Public Defense provides attorneys to those people facing the possibility of jail time or of losing their children in the Kitsap County Superior or District Court who qualify based upon their financial status.

Kitsap County Superior Court

Washington has 39 Superior Courts, one in each of Washington's 39 counties. Superior Courts are the trial courts of general jurisdiction in Washington. A Superior Court may consider all civil and criminal matters occurring within a county's boundary. The Superior Court also has exclusive jurisdiction over civil matters in which the amount in controversy is more than $75,000, felony cases, estate and probate matters,family law cases (including divorces and child custody hearings), and juvenile proceedings. They act as a court of appeal for cases from the District and Municipal Courts.

Kitsap County District Court

The Kitsap County District Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanors and gross misdemeanor crimes. These crimes carry a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail and/ or a $5,000 fine. The most common criminal charges include Domestic Violence (DV), Assault, and Theft. Criminal Traffic charges like Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUI) and Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) are filed into this Court. Traffic infractions including speeding, license tabs charges and equipment violations are also heard in this Court.

A bar association is an organization of lawyers established to promote professional competence, enforce standards of ethical conduct, and encourage a spirit of public service among members of the legal profession.

Kitsap Legal Services

Kitsap Legal Services offers free (pro bono) legal representation. If qualified, volunteer attorneys provide full representation in areas established as priorities by their Board of Directors. Representation might consist of preparation of legal documents, negotiations, or preparation for and attendance at hearings. In 2012, Kitsap County attorneys collectively donated more than 1900 hours of pro bono service to KLS and KLS clients.
