Thursday, January 29, 2015Hayes was driving an SUV in which Houle-Redner was a passenger north on 13 Mile Road at about 8:33am when he suddenly departed the roadway into a ditch and finally struck a tree. The two occupants were trapped in the crushed vehicle, and after they were extricated, Houle-Redner was pronounced dead at the scene while Hayes was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital via helicopter, where he remains in critical condition. Investigators believe that excessive speed for the conditions and ice on the roadway both contributed to the accident, but it is still under investigation.

Wednesday, October 22, 2014Jacqulyn Homel, 47, is dead after a vehicle crash and subsequent fire northeast of Battle Creek Wednesday. It occured before 10 a.m. near the intersection of 13 Mile Road and S Drive North in Convis Township. Authorities say a Dodge Caravan was driving south on 13 Mile when it left the west side of the road and hit a tree, then caught fire. The Bellevue Fire Department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. After the fire was put out, authorities found Homel inside the minivan. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
